MKBT Club 2025/1 - Chinese New Year Round Table

On 7 February we had a very special and inspiring evening together at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Budapest.

The roundtable discussion gave us a deeper insight into the world of Chinese astrology and culture, and how artists bring New Year stamps to life.

Thank you for a fantastic discussion with our participants:
- Katalin Bódi, graphic artist and designer of the Year of the Dragon stamp,
- Kamilla Hu-Yang, graphic illustrator and creator of the Year of the Snake stamp,
- Balázs Szigethy, sinologist, PhD student at the ELTE BTK,
- and Balázs Konfár, Secretary of the MKBT and Master's student in East Asian Studies at the PPKE, who professionally moderated the evening.

After the talk, we also visited the Hungarian Post's stamp exhibition of 12 zodiac signs.

Lunar New Year-2025

The Chinese Cultural Centre of Budapest welcomed visitors with a colourful Lunar New Year programme yesterday. Hundreds of people learned about Chinese culture and Lunar New Year traditions. Artisans and opera singers came to the CCC from as far away as Kaifeng and Jilin in China.

We tried the world famous League of Legends game, met a Chinese influencer who was impressed by Budapest!

We also discovered the similarities between Chinese and Hungarian culture: we made a double-sided embroidery from silk thread in Suzhou, while the embroiderers of Matyódesign Tard showed us the secrets of real Matyó embroidery.

Guests could also try face painting, Chinese opera, the art of sugar blowing and butterfly painting.

For a culinary experience, we made and tasted traditional Chinese meatballs with the help of travel and food blogger Li Mengyi.
