Mid-autumn festive Chinese-Hungarian poetry afternoon

On 21 September, our Chinese-Hungarian Autumn Festival Poetry Afternoon, organised jointly with the Budapest Chinese Cultural Centre, was a great success.

Erika Barta, vice-president of the MKBT, eminent literary translator, spoke on our rich programme István Turczi poet, writer and translator, winner of the Attila József, Babérkoszorú and Prima Primissima prizes, to see what common points can be found in Chinese and Hungarian classical and contemporary poetry in terms of the representation of the moon and autumn.

There was also a great selection of poetry: from the two thousand year old Book of Songs to Li Taj-po, Tu Fun and Aj Qing, poems by Mei Er were read by Chinese students from the Chinese-German School - who even tackled Csokonai's brilliant poem Autumn with honour.
The student choir of the Chinese-Hungarian Bilingual School sang the festive song Autumn Festival on the River (水调歌头-明月几时有).

The ku-qing performance combined with the erhu was also fascinating.
